“Of all the strange things we observed among those people of the stone, none of them unsettled me as much as those slight human features that many carried.
Though their bodies were jagged, carved and polished in haphazard ways, and decorated with paint and primitive adornments, there were some that had… For lack of a better word, human parts. Mouths, noses, stray eyes and oddly placed limbs. Especially mouths seemed to be favoured, for one reason or another. If only those mouths could speak, and explain how this came about.
They did not shy away from touch - instead they seemed to welcome it. One of them guided my hand to its face, almost as if it wanted me to… appreciate its human features. It also seemed like they took a particular interest in Windcaptain Umi, whose feature they seemed quite smitten by. He weathered their touches with an impressive patience - though not without gritted teeth. I think this is one of the very few times I’ve seen that stone face of his so unsettled, and I confess it was a rather amusing sight.
There may be much to learn from these creatures, but I am afraid I am not the right person to tell you what that might be.“
